For this week’s assignment, please create a 2-column, 5-row table (see below and above for examples). The steps are as follows:
1- In one column, include 5 works of art from an ancient civilization from the period 3000 BC- 500 AD (for example, West African art). In the other column, include 5 works of art from an ancient civilization from the period 3000 BC- 500 AD (for example, pre-Columbian art). For each work, include an image of the artwork, the title of the work, artist, dates of the artwork, as well as the current location of the work. The location for an artwork is always either a museum, gallery, private collection, or if it’s tied to the land like a work of architecture, the city and state.
2- For each pair of artworks (you will have a total of 5 pairs) compare the two works’ materials, iconography, and techniques used. Iconography is explained in the following resource: https://www.tate.org.uk/art/art-terms/i/iconography
3- Ultimately, you will have a chart that includes 10 different works of art (5 from one ancient civilization and 5 from a different ancient civilization).
4- Each cell will contain 1 artwork image, identifying information for the artwork and your comparison and contrast information.
The 2 Ancient Civilizations compared in this assignment must be chosen from our readings:
