During the tutorial, participate in the reflective discussions and begin to synthesize ideas related to the video.
Create a 750 word reflection related to the video and submit this via Brightspace.
Your reflection in question 1 and 2 must explore the psychological and social impacts related to the patient deterioration.
Your reflection in question 3 must include potential nursing interventions including communication, delegation and support that may improve practice in similar future situations
Although this is an academic paper, as this is a reflective piece, you may write your assignment in first person style. References are not required in this piece but may be added if you believe they are necessary to convey your point.
You may use headings for the 3 questions in this reflection.
1. Provide a description of the video and the psychological or social impacts on the patient. Include in this section how the patient’s outcomes made you feel. Discuss thoughts, insights and relate to your own experiences or knowledge.
2. Evaluate the positive and negative aspects of care in the video. Provide a clear analysis of the evaluated areas, making meaning, by relating these experiences to your current or future practice.
3. Provide a conclusion that describes what could have improved the issues you evaluated in question 2. Justify a clear action plan that explores practices that would improve future situations. This section must include reflection upon potential nursing interventions such as communication, delegation or support.

Question 1 – Description and feelings
Stage 1: Description
Describe what happened. This section should be quite short.
Some questions you may ask yourself to aid your response include; What happened in the scenario? What was the main focus? What were the responses of the parties involved e.g. patient, nurse, medical staff?
Stage 2: Feelings
The reflector should think about how they felt during the episode, discussing new insights, thoughts or links to similar experiences you have had. It is sometimes worth considering how you feel about it once some time has passed.
Some questions you may ask yourself in this section include; What was I feeling during and after the video? What do you think the patient was feeling during the experience and after the resolution?
Question 2 – Evaluation and analysis
Stage 3: Evaluation
Consider what was good and what was bad about the episode.
Some questions you may ask yourself in this section include; What went well in the scenario for the patient/nurses/medical staff. What didn’t go so well for the patient/nurses/medical staff? What were the contributing factors to these outcomes?
Stage 4: Analysis
This is the main element of this cycle and responds to the why aspect, trying to make sense of the situation. The reflector should consider the positive and negative points and what sense can be made of this. You may choose to analyse in relation to your current or future nursing practice.
Some questions you may ask yourself in this section include; Why did the aspect go well or not so well? Could these situations happen in my current or future practice? Why were the contributing factors relevant to my practice?
Question 3 – Conclusion and action plan
Stage 5: Conclusion
This stage allows the reflector to pull the different elements together. A brief summary of what changes to the actions in the video could improve future outcomes.
Some questions you may ask yourself in this section include; What learning have I gained from this reflection? Have my perceptions changed? How could this situation have been made more positive for all involved?
Stage 6: Action plan
This final stage asks the reflector to describe what they would do should the situation occur in future practice.
